Ye olde mispronounced letter.
I was trolling around Wikipedia looking at stuff about runes because of my current favorite album (Gothic Kabbalah by Therion) when I found this article about the letter ‘thorn’.
I always thought that “Ye” was some Old English way of saying “Your” or something similar. WRONG. “Ye” is really a short hand for “The.” Basically “Y” was used as a thorn (which sounds like ‘th’) because the printing press type fonts did not have a thorn. You can see how the “Y” is a loose approximation of a thorn.
But anyway, “Ye” is just “The” and pronounced the same as “The”. It’s cool to learn something new!
